The Center for Theoretical Inquiry in the Humanities invites you to a symposium on the thought of Martin Heidegger featuring guest scholars Alberto Moreiras (Texas A&M) and Laurence Hemming (Lancaster University and Director of Knapp Foundation). Join us in Global and International Studies Building 1060 for guest lectures from Moreiras and Hemming, with discussion and a catered lunch to follow.
After lunch, the event moves to Indiana Memorial Union’s Oak Room, where Moreiras and Hemming will lead a workshop. The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss precirculated papers by Moreiras and Hemming addressing themes close to Heidegger’s concerns during the 1930s and beyond: capitalism and Gestell; the closure of metaphysics and ontological fatigue; and homelessness and freedom in existential and political contexts. Graduate students are strongly encouraged to participate.
Workshop attendees are encouraged to read our guest speakers' workshop papers prior to the event to help foster an engaging discussion:
Alberto Moreiras - Perinde ac cadaver
Laurence Hemming - Freedom and Homelessness: The Historical Ground of Political Life
